 | This years InterGeo Tradeshow and conference, organised by German DVW,
took place in Essen. Again this year, InterGeo was impressive both in the
number of exhibitors and attracting participants from over 16,000
participants from around 80 countries. Intergeo is the world’s largest conference and trade fair for geodesy,
geoinformation and land management and is one of the key platforms for
industry dialogue since it covers a wide variety of fields, ranging from
surveying, geoinformation, remote sensing and photogrammetry to
complementary solutions and technologies. This year the trade fair had
around 500 exhibitors in three halls covering more than 25,000 square meters
of floor space. DVW President Prof. Dr. -Ing. Karl F. Thöne remarked that this year’s
event drew a younger and more international crowd than in the past, which
can be explained by a number of initiatives which aimed to bring students
into contact with the workforce and gave them the opportunity to discuss the
future of the industry as a whole. The opening took place at the Ruhr Parliament building (Gebäude des
Regionalverbandes Ruhr). DVW President Prof. Dr. -Ing. Karl F. Thöne
welcomed both German and International representatives. Prof. Reiner
Rummel, Munich, Germany received the DVW Prize during the opening due to
his long term engagement in the Geodetic Research and giving this area
visibility in a hasty changing global setting. Prof. Reiner Rummel was also
one of the key note speakers at the conference. Like earlier years FIG was represented at InterGeo with a stand promoting
FIG in general, FIG Congress 2014 that will take place in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia and FIG Working Week 2015 which will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Furthermore several FIG representatives from all over the world attended
InterGeo. It was a pleasure for FIG office to meet and talk to several
	Corporate members.
