Call for submission of case studies for the Annex of the World Cities Report 2024

February 2024

We have received this call from Global Land Tool Network - GLTN under UN-Habitat:

We would like to invite your contributions to UN-Habitat’s World Cities Report 2024. This year’s report will focus on cities and climate action. It will include an annex to showcase 30 case studies of good practices implemented by cities to tackle climate change and its impacts.

The case studies will look at various angles of climate action to provide decision-makers and stakeholders at the city level with a compilation of successful measures. The intended impact is to increase knowledge on the implementation of climate actions in view of the New Urban Agenda, National Determined Contribution (NDC) at the city level and the Agenda 2030, and to increase cities’ resilience by highlighting good practices. The case studies will focus on the enablers and key factors of success for such actions.

  • Case studies will relate to the following sections of the World Cities Report:
  • Case studies on adaptation to specific climate-related hazards;
  • Case studies on actions aiming at building climate resilience of vulnerable urban populations;
  • Case studies on urban design and planning for sustainable cities;
  • Case studies on sectoral interventions and resilient infrastructure;
  • Case studies on multilevel governance for climate action;
  • Case studies on fostering innovation for inclusive climate actions;
  • Case studies on financing interventions for climate change in cities.

Requesting the partners interested in submitting their case studies related to the work of GLTN on Land and Tenure Security to submit the case studies through their respective cluster leads using the attached template, in this case FIG.

Please note that all case studies must highlight clear evidence of change and impact. Certain criteria will need to be met for the final selection of case studies - such as regional balance, verifiable implementation and impact in the form of documentation (photos, news stories, project reports etc.), timeframe (with more recent cases, from 2015 onwards, being preferred). They should be aligned to the UN values.

  • For more information, please see the Concept note
  • Template (word) for the submission of a case study demonstrating good practice for cities’ climate action

If you want to contribute please submit the duly filled in template with your contribution to FIG Director Louise Friis-Hansen lfh [at] fig.net the latest on 19 March 2024 for the review of GLTN.

Note. For case studies that are not related to land or tenure security, they can be submitted directly from the UN-Habitat website call for proposals.
